Shadow of the Tree of Knowledge
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF TIME (9AM UNTIL 3PM)
An exploration of the way in which the Church of England talks about evil and its power. Is evil real? Does it have an identity? A personality? What do we mean when we ask candidates for baptism to reject the devil and renounce evil? Does Screwtape still lurk in the shadows? The day is open to anyone who comes into contact with these questions in a pastoral or preaching ministry.
Tom has recently completed his doctoral thesis which charged the Church of England with inconsistency in its presentation of evil and the Devil in its Liturgy, and calls for a more confident and robust approach.
