So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu

The Church of England is accustomed to take a lead at times of joy and sorrow for our nation but how should we respond to Brexit? At the time of putting this brochure together we still have no clear idea what Brexit will mean in practice or even if it will happen at all. What we can be sure of is that feelings will be mixed and emotions will run high. What role will there be for church leaders and church communities in setting a positive tone and perhaps providing space for reflection and response through liturgy and prayer?

Drawing on the Cathedral’s recent experience of the Salisbury nerve agent attack, the day will offer an opportunity to think widely about the civic role of the Church of England at times of change, to consider the particular challenges and opportunities presented by Brexit, and to share resources and ideas for liturgical and other responses.

Nick Papadopulos is Dean, Ed Probert is Canon Chancellor and Robert Titley is Canon Treasurer of Salisbury Cathedral.
