Extract from Session 1 by Ghillean T Prance FRS, VMH

I have had an interesting and exciting career both as scientist exploring the Amazon rainforest and as a Christian who feels that in my work I am helping to learn more about God’s creation.
It all began with a childhood love of the natural history around me in the Isle of Skye and later in the Cotswolds. Growing up in such wonderful places I could hardly have avoided having a lifelong passion for natural history. What a privilege it has been to study God’s creation in such detail as I have looked at some of the intricacies of the Amazon flora over the last fifty years. But I also see how to study the wonders of creation revealed in the scriptures.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
What are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them? Psalm 8: 3-4
