Evelyn Underhill and Mysticism
Evelyn Underhill (1875-10941) was a prolific writer, lecturer and broadcaster on Christian Spirituality
This course will explore some of the ways in which mysticism is and has been used by those on the edges of Christian culture to shape their spiritual and social lives. Topics include the importance of mysticism for women as part of their spiritual and social journeys, the relationship between mysticism and nature and the development of nature theology by writers like Teilhard de Chardin, the relationship between mysticism and the erotic, and the way in which mystical writers are now being re-appropriated in modern church settings.
