Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: Can God lift a rock bigger and more heavy than himself? Great question. Anyone one like that is 'Is brown square?'. These two questions show what is called a 'category mistake'. Brown is abut colour and square is about shape - so it is a wonderful nonsense question which can't be answered. Similarly, God does not lift rocks like a human being. God is spirit and who knows the weight of spirit...

Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: What is your interpretation of the literal and metaphorical interpretation of the Genesis story? Thanks. I take a metaphorical interpretation of the early chapters of Genesis because eg Gen 1 and Gen 2 contradict themselves on the order of creation is they are taken literally. God does not contracdict himself, so, it seems to me, he does not want us to take them literally. In Gen One humans are created last. In Gen Two man is created first then plants, then animals, then woman. Great stories will very profound truths when intrepreted non literally.

Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: Do you think there should be Bishops in the House of Lords? Thanks. Yes, I do. It is helpful to have 'non political' voices in the House of Lords and input from people who are deeply in touch with local communities and with experience of civil society who can think through and discuss the moral issues involved in legislation. Other faith groups also need representing, and are greatly behind retaining bishops in the House of Lords.

Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: How do feel about some Anglo-Catholics leaving the church at the invitation of Rome and becoming married Roman Catholic priests in as special section of their own? Thanks. I wrote a Guardian article when this first surfaced, which can be seen here  and have been in pastoral touch with clergy who may be attracted to the 'Ordinariate' which has just started. It seems a strange arrangement to me, but seems right for some. Not many will join the 'Ordinariate'. See also my third section in my article 'The Ambiguous Legacy of John Henry Newman' which relates to your question, see here .

Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: Why did you become a Christian? A short answer is that the first person I met for a meal at Oxford was a profound Christian. He became a friend, got me reading the gospels again, and did not put any pressure on me. The love I encountered in the christian community at Hertford College matched the figure I read about in the gospels. At the beginning of the second term in January 1974, I went to chapel and then on to a meeting, made a commitment and my faith came alive. I'm preaching at Hertford College. That is the narrative, but behind it all is God's drawing of me towards himself.

Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: Is God outside the universe? Outside and inside! Before the universe existed, God existed - as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So there was love between these three before the universe was made. God is different from the universe, but is also everywhere within it. He focused himself within it in the coming of his Son, Jesus of Nazareth. So, God is more than that universe ie if the universe ceased to exist, God would still exist.

Previously St Laurence School Bradford on Avon wrote: What is the role of angels in your opinion? Angels are spirits and messengers of God. In the Scriptures, there tends to be particular moments of focus for angels eg the vision of Isaiah in chapter 6 and the birth of Christ in Matthew and Luke. They worship God and delight in that and also rejoice when people come to faith in him - see the parables in Luke 15.
